The Good Fight

Two weeks' ago I'd just arrived in Romania. And for the second time this year, I felt a bit like I was gatecrashing a conference. Last time it was the theologians from central and eastern Europe, this time I was learning from the people working across Europe to combat human trafficking and care for those who are exploited in the extreme. So far my work has taken me to some interesting places and I'm reminded of the sense that I'm in a phase where -  in terms of what I'm learning from others - I'm getting far more than I'm giving.

A year ago I wrote the post 'We're not Selling Sex. We're Selling Souls'. It is probably my most impassioned post and from this you can deduce that the issue of trafficking and sexual exploitation is one that I have felt strongly about for some time. It was a privilege to be part of the recent conference in Romania even though I don't work directly in this area. There are brave men and women who do and it's good to know there are many ways of supporting them. They are not fighting a culture war, they are battling for basic human rights and caring for others in the most basic and yet fundamental ways.

This is a bit of a shorter post today and it doesn't flow as easily as my self-therapeutic ones. If you don't know much about this topic, I'd encourage you to look into it a bit (google it!), to find out about organisations who are active in helping those who have been/ are being exploited. The better-informed we are the better we can pray and the more we can do to support the fight for the most basic of human rights.
