Albanian Stories - Post 2: Sarah

I'm calling the narrator of the second Albanian story Sarah. Sarah is 21 and lives in a town in central Albania. She's finished her education and is working out what to do next. Like many young Albanians, she's considered heading to Italy or other parts of Europe to find work. Despite the pull of foreign lands, Sarah has decided to stay in Albania. A couple of years ago she was listening to the radio as usual, switching from one station to the other in order to find the best music. As with many TWR listeners across the globe, Sarah stumbled across the Christian station on her radio. The drama programme on air that evening had a young, female protagonist. This intrigued Sarah and she began to listen very carefully.

As soon as the programme was over Sarah contacted the radio station. During that phone call, Sarah became a Christian. Sometimes it takes years or even decades for an individual to make this decision. Sometimes it happens very quickly.

We sit in a patisserie-come-cafe as Sarah tells us her story. She's a beautiful young woman with a contagious smile. If you saw a picture of us chatting over coffee, you might guess that we were in Italy or France. Sarah tells us how she began to share her faith with her family, and about the more gradual process in which her mother and brother became Christians. She tells us how she recommends the radio programmes to her friends. We've brought her some more handheld solar radios she likes to give to friends. She may not realise this but she is actually contributing to the work of TWR in Albania. Thinking about it, I doubt she does realise what she's doing-  it is so natural for her to tell others her story and encourage them to listen to our programmes.

Sarah's story encourages, challenges and humbles me. I'm thankful thatTWR-Albania has been such a blessing to her. I hope that my involvement with TWR will continue to grow and that I will get to support more people like Sarah in the work that I do.
