Commitment

This week's post comes to you from Croatia. My boss had a meeting with the partner here today and I was able to come along for the ride (& some seriously good food). It's the second partner visit I've been able to be a part of and  it's a privilege to be able to join on these visits. Getting to know the organisations we work with is really helpful for me. I'm getting to know people I will be working with and the kinds of tasks I can fulfil now and in the future. Yet it's also a lot more than that.
On both of these partner visits, I've felt simply quite humbled by the work that our partners do. In the two regions I'm involved in (South and Central Eastern Europe) our partners often represent very small organisations in terms of the people involved  and the resources available to them. And I'm humbled by the commitment of these individuals to the people in their countries, cultures and languages. There's nothing glamorous or self-aggrandising about the work that they do. There is a simple commitment in faith to use the resources available to them to tell others about Christ. There is a desire to lead others to a faith that is real; to a faith which changes lives and communities. There is a desire not to settle for the status quo, which is often an attitude of indifference or a culture of empty gestures.

I realise I'm probably talking about this from my internal TWR perspective. Before I got involved with TWR, I had no idea about the work that goes on through TWR's partnerships with Christian organisations active on a national and local level. When I say 'work' I mean the use of radio and other forms of media to tell people about a Jesus they may not have encountered before, regardless of their religious (or non-) background. And the use of media to spread this message is only the beginning. Then comes the task of responding to those who write, call, text or email...

If I've confused or maybe even intrigued you with this mini-overview, then please ask me to tell you more. For now I'd simply like to say it is the commitment of these partners, which inspires me to want to work as part of TWR. That's all for now, have a great weekend.
